Ingredients

For the Cookies
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
For the Cauldron Decoration
  • 1 bag black candy melts
  • 1 tube green decorating gel
  • 1 tube orange decorating gel

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheets
  • Whisk
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Melt the black candy melts according to package directions. Dip the top half of each cooled cookie into the melted candy, letting any excess drip off.
  10. Place the cookies back on parchment paper and let the candy coating set.
  11. Use the green and orange decorating gels to draw cauldron shapes and spooky designs on the black candy coating.

Notes

You can add a drop of black food coloring to the cookie dough for a darker cauldron base if desired. Get creative with your cauldron designs!
