Ingredients

For the Treats
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 package marshmallows (10 oz)
  • 1 teaspoon cotton candy flavoring extract
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1/4 cup pink or blue food coloring (optional, for color)
  • 1/4 cup sprinkles (optional, for decoration)

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with cooking spray or butter.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  3. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the cotton candy flavoring extract and food coloring, if using, until evenly combined.
  5. Add the Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture. Stir until the cereal is well coated.
  6. If using sprinkles, gently fold them in now.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Use a buttered spatula or your hands to press the mixture evenly into the pan.
  8. Let the treats cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares.

Notes

For an extra festive look, you can swirl two different colors of food coloring into the marshmallow mixture before adding the cereal. You can also use different colored sprinkles to match your theme.
