  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or milk of choice Use 2% milk if preferred
  • 2.5 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 tablespoon pure maple syrup Plus additional to taste
  • 1 pinch kosher salt or sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips
  • 0.25 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • Shaved dark chocolate or chocolate chips For serving

Method
 

  1. Heat the milk in a small saucepan until it just simmers.
  2. Whisk in the cocoa powder, maple syrup, and salt.

  4. Taste the mixture and add more maple syrup if you want it sweeter.
  5. Pour the hot chocolate into a mug and top with extra chocolate as desired.
