- Bring the water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
- Gradually whisk in the cornmeal and salt. Reduce heat to low and cook, whisking frequently, until thickened, about 20-25 minutes.
- Remove from heat. Stir in the butter and Parmesan cheese until melted and combined.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
You can adjust the consistency by adding more water or milk if the polenta becomes too thick. Serve as a side dish with meats or vegetables, or top with your favorite sauce for a main course.
