French Onion Potato Bake

This recipe combines thinly sliced potatoes with a creamy French onion soup base and melted cheddar cheese for a simple, flavorful bake.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 lbs potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 1 packet French Onion Soup mix 40g/1.4oz
  • 1.5 cups grated cheddar cheese

Equipment

  • Medium baking dish or casserole dish (12"x7" recommended)
  • Mixing bowl

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) fan forced.
  2. Layer the sliced potatoes in a medium baking dish or casserole dish.
  3. In a bowl, mix together the whipping cream and the packet of French Onion Soup mix until combined.
  4. Pour the cream mixture over the potatoes and cover the dish with foil.
  5. Bake in the oven for 60 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil, add the cheese, and bake for ten minutes more until the cheese is golden brown.
  7. Allow the bake to rest for 10 minutes before you serve it.

Notes

This dish is easy to prepare using common pantry items. The resting time helps the bake set before slicing.
