Ingredients

For the Cheese Bites
  • 8 oz Mozzarella cheese sticks cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 Large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs plain or seasoned
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
For Serving (Optional)
  • 1/2 cup Marinara sauce for dipping

Equipment

  • Deep fryer or large pot
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels
  • Baking sheet

Method

  1. Prepare your dredging stations. Place flour in one shallow dish. In a second shallow dish, whisk the eggs. In a third shallow dish, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Dip each piece of mozzarella into the flour, shaking off any excess. Then, dip into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is fully coated. Finally, roll in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  3. Place the coated cheese pieces on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 15 minutes. This helps them hold their shape during frying.
  4. Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully add the frozen cheese bites to the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove the fried cheese bites with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve immediately with marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.

Notes

Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying. If the oil is too cool, the cheese will absorb too much oil. If it's too hot, the coating will burn before the cheese melts.
