Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Take each piece of string cheese and flatten it slightly. Use a small ghost-shaped cookie cutter to cut out ghost shapes. You may need to re-roll scraps to get more shapes.
- Set up three shallow bowls. In the first, place the flour. In the second, place the beaten egg. In the third, combine the panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Dip each ghost-shaped mozzarella piece first into the flour, then into the egg, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Place the coated mozzarella ghosts onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and the cheese is slightly softened. Be careful not to overbake, as the cheese can melt completely.
- Serve immediately with warmed marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
For a crispier coating, you can freeze the coated mozzarella bites for about 15 minutes before baking. If you don't have a ghost cookie cutter, you can simply cut the string cheese into 1-inch pieces and coat them as is.
