Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
For Serving
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce leaves separated
  • 1/4 cup shredded carrots
  • 2 tablespoons chopped peanuts
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, ground ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes more, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  4. To serve, spoon the ground beef mixture into the lettuce leaves. Top with shredded carrots, chopped peanuts, and green onions.

Notes

You can customize the toppings with shredded cabbage, cilantro, or a drizzle of sriracha.
