Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 pound Ground turkey
  • 1 large Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 can (15 ounces) Diced tomatoes undrained
  • 1 can (15 ounces) Kidney beans rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (15 ounces) Black beans rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (8 ounces) Tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper

Equipment

  • Large pot or Dutch oven
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Spoon

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  5. Add diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For a thicker chili, cook uncovered for the last 10-15 minutes.
  7. Serve hot. Optional toppings include shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped cilantro.

Notes

This chili can be made ahead of time and reheats well. Adjust seasonings to your preference.
