Ingredients

For the Cupcakes
  • 1.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter softened
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
For the Frosting and Decoration
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring Red food coloring
  • Black decorating gel Black decorating gel

Equipment

  • Muffin tin
  • Cupcake liners
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Piping bag
  • Round piping tip

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cupcakes cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. To make the frosting, beat the softened butter in a large bowl until creamy.
  10. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and beat until smooth and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  11. Divide the frosting into two bowls. Leave one bowl white. Add red food coloring to the second bowl and mix until you achieve a blood-red color.
  12. Fit a piping bag with a round tip. Fill the bag with the red frosting.
  13. Frost the cooled cupcakes with the red frosting. You can swirl it or create a smooth surface.
  14. Using the black decorating gel, draw two small bite marks on the side of each cupcake, as if a vampire has taken a bite.

Notes

You can use a chocolate cupcake recipe if you prefer. For a more dramatic bite effect, you can slightly indent the frosting before adding the black gel.
