Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cupcakes cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the frosting, beat the softened butter in a large bowl until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and beat until smooth and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Divide the frosting into two bowls. Leave one bowl white. Add red food coloring to the second bowl and mix until you achieve a blood-red color.
- Fit a piping bag with a round tip. Fill the bag with the red frosting.
- Frost the cooled cupcakes with the red frosting. You can swirl it or create a smooth surface.
- Using the black decorating gel, draw two small bite marks on the side of each cupcake, as if a vampire has taken a bite.
Notes
You can use a chocolate cupcake recipe if you prefer. For a more dramatic bite effect, you can slightly indent the frosting before adding the black gel.
