Method
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Stir to combine.
- Add the warm water and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Knead in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the loaf and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Brush the top of the loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with the remaining cheddar cheese.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 200 degrees F (93 degrees C).
- Let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Notes
You can add other seasonings like garlic powder or chives to the dough for extra flavor.
