Servings: 1 loaf
Course: Bread
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water about 110 degrees F
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
For the Topping
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Stir to combine.
  2. Add the warm water and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Knead in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Cover the loaf and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  9. Brush the top of the loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with the remaining cheddar cheese.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 200 degrees F (93 degrees C).
  11. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

You can add other seasonings like garlic powder or chives to the dough for extra flavor.
