Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, and eggs.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Spread half of the cornbread batter into the prepared baking dish.
  6. Layer the cooked ground meat, shredded cheddar cheese, and chopped green onions over the cornbread batter.
  7. Pour the remaining cornbread batter over the toppings.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving. Top with sour cream and salsa, if desired.

Notes

You can customize the toppings with your favorite ingredients like cooked bacon, jalapeños, or different types of cheese.
