Maple Old Fashioned

This recipe makes a classic Old Fashioned cocktail sweetened with maple syrup instead of sugar.
Prep Time 2 minutes
Total Time 2 minutes
Servings: 1 cocktail
Course: Cocktail
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 1 bar spoon Maple syrup (Grade A Dark Robust) Add more for a sweeter cocktail
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 Orange peel For garnish
  • 1 Maraschino cherry For garnish

Equipment

  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Old Fashioned glass

Method

  1. Combine the bourbon, maple syrup, and Angostura bitters in a mixing glass.
  2. Add ice to the mixing glass and stir the mixture until it is well chilled.
  3. Strain the mixture into an Old Fashioned glass over a large ice cube, if desired.
  4. Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by twisting it, then drop the peel into the glass as a garnish. Add the maraschino cherry.

Notes

For a variation, you can substitute the orange peel garnish with a lemon peel. If you prefer a less sweet drink, start with less than one bar spoon of maple syrup and adjust to your taste.
