- Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar. Mix well.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
- Cut into squares and serve.

Store leftover brownies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
