Ingredients

Cookie Dough
  • 1/2 cup butter Melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Packed
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour Properly measured (fluff, scoop, sweep)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt Or 1/4 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Medium cookie scoop

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 F.
  2. Microwave the butter for about 40 seconds until it is completely melted but not hot.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the melted butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract and egg until incorporated.
  5. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. The dough should be soft and a little sticky but not overly sticky.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop out 1.5 tablespoons of dough (use a medium cookie scoop) and place the dough balls 2 inches apart on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes, or until the cookies are set. They will look puffy and slightly underbaked in the middle.

Notes

Measure your flour by fluffing it up, then scooping it, and sweeping off the excess. Too much flour results in a dry or crumbly cookie. Do not over-bake the cookies if you want them to stay soft. Start with the listed baking time and adjust longer if your oven requires it.
