Ingredients

For the Beef
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 lean recommended
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
For the Stir-fry
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves Thai basil preferred
For Serving
  • 1 cup cooked jasmine rice
  • fresh cilantro chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Cutting board
  • Knife

Method

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sliced onion and stir-fry for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the seasoned ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spoon and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the sliced red and green bell peppers. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the peppers are tender-crisp.
  5. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the fresh basil leaves until they just begin to wilt.
  6. Serve the Thai Basil Beef Rolls immediately over cooked jasmine rice. Garnish with fresh chopped cilantro.

Notes

For a spicier version, you can add a pinch of red pepper flakes or some sliced chili peppers along with the garlic and onions.
